Hybrid Felt for the Embroiderer

2 days

Learn how to design and create a hybrid felt wallhanging - combining felt with non-felting fabrics to create a seamless material with great depth of texture and subtlety. The course is ideally suited to Embroiderers wishing to widen their horizons and looking to try something new. Students design and make their own fabric. The aim is to create a seamless transition between conventional felt and woven fabrics and not to be able to see the join!

The course covers Sarah’s own approach to pattern design, pattern image application to fabric and the process used to incorporate non-felting fabrics into hand made felt yardage. This allows the student to retain a high level of control of colouring and imagery and to produce a fabric that has great depth of texture, yet still retains a high degree of drape.
No previous feltmaking experience is necessary, basic free machine embroidery is desirable.

Emphasis is placed on individuality of design, craftsmanship and attention to detail, whilst ensuring that the course is a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
